Birthday Wishes Messages for Every Person on Your List
Traditional birthday wishes messages can sometimes feel a bit underwhelming. Is a basic “Happy Birthday” enough to express to your best friend how much you cherish your friendship, and wish her well? While there is nothing wrong with a more familiar, standard message…more people are moving toward something more individualized with their happy birthday wish messages. It really makes your friends, family, and coworkers feel just a little more special when they know that you took the time to come up with thoughtful, personal messages for each of them.
Birthday Wishes Messages for Friends
This is where you can really get creative. You know your friends and their tastes, likes, and dislikes. You likely also know their sense of humor, and what better gift than laughter? Whether including a message with their gift, sending them a birthday email, or writing it in a birthday card, make it funny. An inside joke between the two of you is sure to bring a smile to their face. How about a reference to a favorite classic movie that you share? Keep it personal and light, while wishing them well.
Birthday Wishes Messages for Kids
When it comes to your kids, there is no right or wrong with birthday messages. Of course, you want to tell them that you love them, but the words that you use aren’t as important as showing them with actions. It could be fun to spell out “Happy Birthday!” in Lego blocks, or use photographs of you and your children together to create the word FAMILY and hang it in the living room. If they are very young, you could even make crafts together with macaroni noodles or Gummi Bears.
Birthday Wishes Messages for Family
For family members, you may want to dig a little deeper. Humor is always great, but family birthdays are a good time to renew the bond between family members. Mention a shared memory from childhood. Tell them how much their support and love have meant to you as you’ve grown. If they are new family members, such as in-laws, you could tell them that they have made your family richer by becoming a part of it. It’s okay to get sentimental and mushy. Family will appreciate the reminder of your love and concern.
Birthday Wishes on Social Media Websites
While some people have only true friends and family on social media sites, like Facebook, many more have added acquaintances, or even strangers as friends. Since many of these sites offer birthday reminders, it has become popular to post a birthday message to their page. You could post a simple “Happy Birthday!” message, or you could find a cute or funny video or photograph to express your wishes.
Birthday Wishes Messages for Coworkers
With coworkers, it’s important to keep things professional. If you’re friends outside of work, you can afford to be more casual, but for the majority of your workmates, keep it traditional. Remember that what may seem funny to you could be offensive to others. Also, avoid religious connotations and cards unless you’re absolutely certain of their faith. Pick up a pack of pre-printed birthday cards and keep them in your desk. To make these messages personal, you could include something work-related or tell them to enjoy their day off, if they are lucky enough to be able to. You could even send thank you messages for birthday wishes, showing gratitude for tasks they have helped you with in the past.
Belated Birthday Wishes Messages
Schedules have a tendency to get hectic, and we’ve all found ourselves realizing that we forgot a birthday. Don’t beat yourself up. Most people are understanding, and realize that it’s easy for time to get away from us. It’s important to let your friend know that you care. Not acknowledging a missed birthday can lead to hard feelings or resentment. Your friend doesn’t need for you to offer them reasons that you forgot, and doing so can seem like you’re offering excuses. Instead, keep it simple. Offer a sincere apology, along with a personal happy birthday wish. If at all possible, try to do this in person, or at the least take the time to craft a handwritten message. It won’t go unnoticed!
No matter who the recipient of your happy birthday wishes message is, you can come up with the perfect wording, as long as you keep these tips in mind. Bring a smile to the faces of those around you with a personal and thoughtful message, and think of what you might like to read in a card destined for you. If it’s truly an honest and heartfelt piece of penmanship, the birthday honoree may look forward to receiving your birthday wishes message even next year!

A phone call, card in the mail, or even just a message left in text or in person makes someone feel so special on their birthday.
